Sea Witch on Earth Day
Though the calendar date marking Earth Day has passed, that does not mean our celebration should stop. My favorite catchphrase created from this day is that ‘Earth Day is everyday.’ As a sea witch, I take this to heart more and more in my daily practice. If you are looking for some ocean and water specific magical activities to celebrate the earth, then you have washed ashore onto the right blog!

Carry a reusable water bottle:
Take this one step further by enchanting your magical water bottle. You can do this with a charging plate similar to magical jewelry. Another way is by drawing sigils around the bottle, or even by utilizing old stickers. One of my water bottles is specifically enchanted with stickers that have come in packages from companies that benefit the planet. They serve as a reminder whenever I drink from that bottle. What reminder, you may ask?

Support companies that support the planet:
Making earth day every day doesn’t mean you need to stop shopping completely. Rather be smart about what you currently have. When considering your future purchases, check out the below links to some of my favorites:
Now, I know the immediate backlash of sustainable products- they’re too expensive. However, most of these products go hand in hand with sustainable lifestyle changes. Many are actually cheaper in the long run over the alternate ‘cheap’ brands. I personally adore @loveofearthco ‘s channel, and how she breaks down the effective cost of having a zero waste ____ routine. Check her out for some easy eco-motivation!

Join local beach and water cleanups:
My local lake has cleanups at least once a month. This not only connects you closer to the water and local land spirits, but also your community. The path of a witch is often a solitary one. However, coming together for a good common cause is a great reminder of how connected we are to everything around us. If you’re unsure of where to begin, check your town’s website, Facebook group, or even a bulletin board in town hall. This time of year especially is bound to have tons of options! While you are there, offer small blessings to the water as you clean. Thank the spirits for their aid and guidance. If you visit this water source often, you may wish to declare yourself its unofficial guardian. Promote further cleanups in the future.

Save Water, Save Energy:
Oftentimes we get overwhelmed with climate anxiety because we stop focusing on the small things that add up to big changes. Turning off your lights or even fixing your leaky tap goes much further than you think. For some of my water spirits, they would even consider these actions an offering. This is because of the intention and impact behind it. Like the ripples in a pond, small actions will lead to bigger change. They may even inspire others.

Educate & advocate:
There are still so many people who are either unaware of their impact on the planet or know about it but have no clue where to start. By promoting and providing resources, even just re-sharing reliable sources, we are spreading seeds. Take this one step further and reach out to your local government. I’m talking starting as low as your town hall and working your way up. Make sure you are educated on what your representatives stand for. Ensure they are putting the planet first. They are the ones that will inspire the change you see in your town. Then eventually your county, and so on.
We all live on this planet, but often forget the significance of what that entails. A lot of what I do in my practice is sea witchcraft but also mundane, very necessary activism. We cannot ignore the current climate conditions. However, we also don’t have to completely abandon our way of life to create real change. Once you really lean into the role of protecting the earth, which I call ‘embracing the eco-warrior,’ you’ll find that making positive choices for the planet is both rewarding and fun. This applies on earth day or any day!
